NUTCRACKER

An object that blurs function and aesthetic

Camera.006.png

This nutcracker is an object inspired around the seasons, autumn and winter. The time of year when nuts really come into season, and are traditionally ready to harvest in the UK. the shop floors are filled with nuts both cracked and un-cracked, readying for the season of huddling around warm fires and cosy nights in. This fuelled the idea to create a piece which not only serves a function but also can be used an an ornament or a statement piece.

While Designing the nut cracker, I explored many different avenues of cracking the nut before settling on a method I liked and an overall form. Following this I looked at different textures for grip and different handles while 3d printing and testing to find a handle that was best suited. The nut cracker is mean to be mute but I also wanted to explore some colour alternatives and used light airy winter colours as the base.
